Listen to my story...

Hi everyone, we are extremely excited that you've found your way onto our website and we hope what we are showcasing has generated a spark of excitement about our new BCG - re:Aeon. In this section we want to share a little more about who we are, why this game, and our overall vision and goals.

Our names are James (creator, design and concepts) and Will (socials and apps), avid collectors of TCGs for a long time. We have seen the rise and fall of TCGs and have followed the scene for a large part of our lives. After over 12 months of researching and contemplation, we have decided to realise a long time dream of ours of being able to create our own TCG. Saying we are not nervous about its success would be a lie in a sea of aspiring TCG creations, but we will never know if we don’t try.

Initial Thoughts on Design

From the beginning we’ve considered various forms of gameplay. Early day designs came as easily as they went as they never landed far off the established TCGs out there. We knew that if we wanted this to stand on its own it had to have the mechanics that players are familiar with but yet fundamentally different to how traditional TCGs played. In particular, we were starting to deviate away from the idea of static gameplay, in the sense players would set up 2 sides and execute the gameplay through verbal commands only. This form has obviously been done to death and no longer personally excited us in trying to create another carbon copy.

Emulating Video Game Mechanics

Eventually, the idea of a TCG based on tactics genre video games, was born - and was largely inspired by Final Fantasy tactics, one of James's all time favourite games.

The initial thoughtcrafting was that, incorporating movement to gameplay would completely change how the game is played by adding a layer of strategising that simply don’t exist in static TCGs, and gives the game an enormous amount of design space in terms of what could be done. Plus, being able to replicate video game mechanics on tabletop would be incredibly fun we feel.

The "Why"

There are two fundamental “why” questions:

  1. Why are you making this?

  2. Why should we play your game?

These are excellent questions, the same questions we had to answer ourselves before delving into this monster of a project. It ultimately came down to three factors.

#1

The big, established TCGs are getting too hard to find, and too expensive to collect for us average people.

__
We don’t believe that a booster box should cost an arm and a leg, nor should cards be excessively difficult to pull. In this regard, we want to design something where every pack feels exciting to open (as it should be!) and shun the idea that experience is correlated with card prices.
One Other Important Personal Reason

Being a HUGE animal lover, James always wished he could do more for the animals. As such, we will be donating a portion of our Kickstarter funding (if the campaign is successful) and ongoing earnings for the betterment of animals. Therefore when you support us, you are also supporting our furry friends :)

Concluding Remarks

If you’ve read until this point, thank you! We don’t have mega flashy media that your eyes can feast on (at least not yet!) but these are our heartfelt intentions behind this project. Hopefully the above (and the rest of this website) has given you a taste of what project re:Aeon is all about. If you are excited for this project sign up to our mailing list, give our socials a follow, and support us in our Kickstarter campaign launching in mid 2026!
